Welcome to new AvantGo users.....
The free AvantGo service contains hundreds of sites that are specially designed for the handheld PDA screen.  Sites include: the New York Times, Dave Letterman's Top 10 list, Wall Street Journal, Wired News, CNN and smaller sites such as this one.   The set up and loading process consists of several steps, but is worth the few minutes it takes to get you going.  Once you are set up, all subsequent downloads are as simple as pushing your hot sink button.  If you are hot sinking at work, you will need external web access.   Read about using AvantGo through your firewall protection later at this link.

Step by Step Instructions and Comments  (you may want to print this out - read this before printing)

1. Please read through these instructions first, and then click on the link at the bottom of the list.
2. The link will take you to the AvantGo login screen.  
3. Please choose the link at "Don't Have an Account.. Get one free of charge.."  
4. Once into the AvantGo site, please follow the instructions to setup an account and enter all of the requested information. Please read about the software and hardware requirements shown there.
5. A small program called MobileLink will be installed on your PC.  This program basically tells your standard handheld hot sink software to download some AvantGo web pages in addition to performing your standard address book and calendar hotsync..  
6. Your AvantGo account details, including your list of web sites to download, will be stored on AvantGo's servers.
7. AvantGo's JapanInYourPalm.com Channel Properties screen should appear.
8. The fields shown should be automatically filled out as follows:
   (If any of the fields are incorrect, please fill them in with the data shown here)
   Title:   Japan In Your Palm.com
   Location URL:   http://www.japaninyourpalm.com/palm
   Maximum Channel Size:   200k
   Link Depth:   5
   Include Images:   Yes
   Follow Off-site Links:   No
   Refresh:   on every sync
9. Click on the Save Channel button
10. That's it!  On your next hot sink, JapanInYourPalm.com's content will be downloaded to your handheld.
11. The handheld/ AvantGo version of the JapanInYourPalm site is about 185 kbytes.  AvantGo alone will take up about 400kbytes.  Please ensure you have enough space on your handheld.
12. If you are accessing AvantGo at work and your company has a firewall click here.
13. Once JapanInYourPalm.com has been assigned to your AvantGo channel list on their site, you may log off of AvantGo.
14. All future hot sync's will download the latest JapanInYourPalm.com content to your handheld PDA automatically (you must be connected to the internet while hot syncing).  We update our handheld content all the time.  Look for new features every day.

You will rarely need to use the Mobile Link software directly.  You will simply install it and let it do it's job.  You may only need to use the Mobile Link to set up the connection to a proxy server as in the case of a firewall.
