Directions Find Tenmaya. Walk south along Chou Dori (the only street without streetcar tracks). Go for 2 blocks and then turn left in towards Nagarekawa. (There's a brown brick building here on the corner that has the Asahi Beer Hall on the top floor.) Walk down this street to just past the first intersection. Look up and you'll see a sign for Bar Shaggy overhead. Enter into the building on your right and take the elevator/stairs up to the 5th floor. There's a sign outside the door that will tell you you're in the right place.

Description As a word of caution here, the first 2 times I tried to go to this bar I got the big 'X' with the forearms and a "So sorry, Japanese only..." But I guess the 3rd time's a charm because they let us in and we had a good time. So there's no guarantee what their mood will be on the night you check it out. This bar has a funky interior and makes heavy use of aluminum foil as a wall decoration. The staff are a group of energetic, talkative guys. It's an enjoyable place to go and practice your Japanese and learn about life in Japan from the perspective of the bartenders. |
