Directions Find Tenmaya. Walk south down the busy Chuo dori street until you come to the second cross street. There is a big brown brick building here (with Asahi beer hall on the top floor). Turn left into Nagarekawa. Go straight until the third street on your right. Turn down here and Cafe Spice is on your right at the intersection of another road that T's in from the left. |
Description Cafe Spice is really more of a restaurant than a bar, but its location in the heart of Nagarekawa and its late night hours make it a useful addition if you're wandering around the area. When you walk in, the trendy atmosphere quickly swallows you up. The lighting is dim in some places and bright in others. The first floor is an interesting mix of candle-lit tables in the immediate front, followed by a lively seating area at a counter surrounding the kitchen, and finally concluded by some cozy seating in a dark bar at the back. There is also a second floor with more seating (although I've never seen it). The counter around the kitchen is definitely the choice seat in the house as you can watch the active chefs run around and make the various delicious foods. The food is great, but you need to be a bit proficient in reading Japanese to get by. The bar boasts a large selection of foreign wines and herb teas. All in all Cafe Spice works well for a starting point for the evening, or a good place for a late dinner. |
